Saturday And Sunday Afternoon PHRF Racing Series

Welcome! PYC has a vibrant racing community. This season we will have two race series:

  • a Saturday series which itself has two series. Series I runs every Saturday from June 29, 2024 to August 3, 2024 and Series II runs from August 10, 2024 to September 14, 2024. The race committee uses standard courses, chosen on race day depending on wind conditions. We often run multiple races on race day. We use a handicap system so that all boats may compete, though the majority of the fleet is generally sailboats under 20’.

  • a Sunday series which runs on July 7, July 21, August 4 and August 18. This series is specifically designed for our larger (over 20’) fleet and will have longer courses than the Saturday series.

Races start at 2pm in Provincetown Harbor. We welcome all boats & crews, whether you are a club member or not. We use a handicap racing system (PHRF).

August 9, 2024 - Changes to on-the-water race operations:

  • The 2024 Racing Chart has been revised. The revised chart is available on the “Resources for Racers” page. The revisions are as follows: Buoy B was relocated from its Truro location to Provincetown Harbor, just South of the East end of the breakwater to form a triangle with Buoys A and D; buoy H is in Truro at the same location as Buoy B was in the previous chart; (nun) was added to further identify CG1 and (can) was added to further identify CG2.

  • STARTING SEQUENCE: There will no longer be a one-minute warning of short horns to the Starting Sequence. The race committee will announce on VHF channel 72 that the Starting Sequence will start in about one minute; the first horn and display of the Class flag will indicate the start of the Rule 26 five minute Starting Sequence.

    VERBAL COMMUNICATION WITH RACERS: Prior to the start of the race, the race committee will not answer questions from racers regarding information published in the NOR&SI and on the PYC website i.e. Is CG1 a can or a nun buoy?
